News from the Club: December 2025
Letter from the KP Presidents
Dear Kingspoint Club Members,
Happy December! We hope that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving, celebrating with your families and friends. This has been a very busy year and we hope that you were able to relax, eat good food, and feel the gratitude of being surrounded by those you love. The Kingspoint Club Board is especially grateful for all of you, our wonderful membership, who make the Kingspoint Club such a special and connected community of friends and neighbors.
GIVING TUESDAY: Speaking of being grateful, we are very grateful that we have received some wonderful donations from our members in 2025. Just last week, we received another generous donation from Anne and Ken Allen along with a suggestion to reach out to our community on Giving Tuesday. Anne had the following to say:
"In this time of giving, it is so important to give to those whose needs speak to your heart. For Ken and me, it spans the globe, but we are also aware of the importance of needs closest to us, like our wonderful Kingspoint neighborhood. We see the value in having a robust community center for our neighbors, and we treasure hearing the joyful sounds of picnics and festivities from our yard. We believe we have a very special neighborhood (realtors as well as newcomers tell us that) and we believe in belonging to the club that helps sustain that old fashioned American spirit, even though we don’t use the pool or clubhouse ourselves. We believe it important to help sustain the club for many reasons, not the least of which is how it adds to each one of our real estate values.
The club is faced with some serious and costly challenges, like replacing the boat dock and keeping an ageing pool in top condition. I would encourage everyone to not only become a member, if you’re not already, but to include it on your end-of-year donation list as well.
It takes a village. And what a wonderful village we have!"
Anne Allen
Please consider making a donation to the Kingspoint Club in honor of Giving Tuesday.
Your donation—of any size—will help us maintain and improve the shared spaces and organize (even more) engaging events that make our Club such a welcoming and inclusive organization in our community. Donations support ongoing upkeep and necessary enhancements to our common areas, and help us to support member events that festively bring us together throughout the year.
YOUR donation will help us close out the year with resources that can be utilized to create a stronger foundation for the year ahead. YOUR generous support will allow us to continue providing maintenance and improvements to the dock, pool, clubhouse, greens, and parking areas, and purchase supplies for annual Club activities, like the Superbowl Party & Chili Cook-Off, the Easter Egg Hunt, the Memorial Day Party & 5K Fun Run, the New Member Potlucks, the Tiki Party, and the Harvest Happy Hour, that benefit all members. We are grateful for your generosity and for the many ways our Club's community supports one another.
You may drop off a donation to the mailbox of our Treasurer, Catherine Mountjoy, at 140 Kingspoint Drive, or you may put a check in the mail and send it to our mailing address:
The Kingspoint Club
PO Box 365
Williamsburg, VA 23187
Be on the Look-Out in 2026: Based on suggestions from our membership, we are also working on a way to donate via a QR Code and directly through the Kingspoint Website.
(FYI: The KingspointClub is a 501(c)(7) nonprofit corporation organized under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Generally 501(c)(7) are not tax-deductible for the donor. This is because 501(c)(7)s are social clubs that primarily benefit their members, unlike 501(c)(3)s which are public charities and can receive tax-deductible contributions. Dues, fees, and assessments paid to a 501(c)(7) are also not deductible.)
DECEMBER SOCIAL EVENTS: As we look ahead to our final events of 2025, we have two activities planned that bring joy to all who participate in them. Please join us for our annual Luminary Night on Sunday, December 14 (5-8 PM), graciously hosted by Sarah Huber, and Ornament Making & Movie on Sunday, December 21 (2-4 PM), graciously hosted by Anna Thomas. Please come out and enjoy these festive holiday events with friends and neighbors!
We will be having our annual Kingspoint Luminary Night on Sunday, December 14th, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm (rain date Monday, December 15th). On this evening, please join us by lining our neighborhood with candle luminaries. This event is a wonderful way to enjoy an evening out in the neighborhood.
Luminaries consist of a votive candle placed in 2-3 inches of sand inside a white paper bag. Participating families line the street in front of their house and if desired, their driveways and walkways, too. The luminaries are placed approximately three to five feet apart and everyone lights their candles at 5:00pm. We should have (weather permitting) several hours to enjoy the impressive sight.
If you would like to order a luminary kit from the Kingspoint Club, please fill out this form and return it to Sarah Huber along with your payment by Sunday, December 7th. Determining how many luminary kits you will need is up to you, though we recommend one kit per 3-5 feet. Each kit costs $1.00 and includes one white paper bag, one candle, and sand.
If you order luminary kits, they can be picked up on Saturday, December 13th, between 10am to 2pm at my house, 113 Overlook Dr. If you have any questions or need to arrange an alternate pick-up time, please contact Sarah Huber at 413-695-7069 (cell) or e-mail hilton.huber@gmail.com.
Please save the date and join us for a cozy afternoon at the KP Clubhouse for a holiday movie and ornament crafting. Grinch punch and snacks will be served. Feel free to bring a blanket and pillows to make it extra cozy!
Please help make this event a success by signing up to help: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040E4DABAB2FABF58-60683084-kingpoinst
Official Notice: Proposed Revision of Kingspoint Club Bylaws & Call for Review Prior to Annual Meeting:
Dear Kingspoint Club Members,
The Kingspoint Club Board of Directors is pleased to announce the completion of a comprehensive review and revision of the Club's governing Bylaws. This monumental task, which has involved years of careful review by the Board and dedicated committees, aims to ensure our foundational governing document is modern, clear, and accurately reflects the current operations and future needs of the Kingspoint Community.
Our current Bylaws were last updated in 2014. The proposed revisions are essential to match our governance structure with the realities of the neighborhood today, ensuring the Club can operate effectively and serve our members efficiently for many years to come.
Key Action and Vote Timeline
The proposed revised Bylaws are being presented to the membership for a final review and will be put to a vote for adoption at the Kingspoint Club Annual Meeting scheduled for January 20, 2026 at 7 PM.
Your review, feedback, and participation in this vote are essential for the effective and transparent governance of the Kingspoint Club.
Review Materials
To ensure every member has the opportunity to review the changes thoroughly, we have compiled three essential documents which can be found below and were emailed to membership on November 18th and November 30th, 2025.
Proposed Revised Bylaws (November 2025): The full text of the document proposed for adoption.
Current Governing Bylaws (February 2014): The official document currently in force.
Executive Summary of Major Changes: A concise summary highlighting the most significant differences between the 2014 and the proposed 2025 versions.
Bylaws: 2014 version PDF
The Bylaws: Executive Summary PDF
Highlights of Proposed Changes
While we encourage you to read the Executive Summary for detail, the revisions focus primarily on:
Streamlined Governance: Adjusting the minimum size of the Board of Directors and extending Officer terms to promote stability and consistency.
Modernized Operations: Allowing for virtual attendance at Board meetings and updating financial limits to match current operating costs and best practices.
Clarity on Stock & Membership: Clarifying the non-transferability of Club stock to ensure equitable and responsible management of Club assets.
Sunsetting the Architectural Review Committee: In light of the expired and expiring covenants applicable to the Kingspoint community, this committee has been retired.
Questions and Concerns
We encourage all members to review these documents.
If you have questions, please submit them to the Board of Directors by responding to (kppresidents@gmail.com) by January 19, 2026 at 5 PM so that the Board may incorporate/summarize all member concerns prior to the Annual Meeting. In addition, interested members may attend the next two Board of Directors meetings on Monday, December 8, 2025, at 7:00 PM at the Clubhouse or on Monday, January 12, 2026, at 7:00 PM at the Clubhouse. Time will be reserved on the agendas to discuss the bylaws' revisions with attending members.
Thank you for your active participation in the governance of the Kingspoint Club. We look forward to seeing you at the Annual Meeting on January 20, 2026 at 7:00 PM.
NOVEMBER Volunteers and Donors: We are forever thankful for our members for your unwavering support. You make the Club look beautiful and run smoothly. The Club couldn’t run properly without everyone’s efforts!! A heartfelt thank you to all for signing up and showing up! THANK YOU ALL!
Melissa Reeves (Facilities Chair) - The Fall Clean Up - Ben Brown, Susan Clinton, Mike Draeger, MaryKate Galke, Matt and Thaddues Haines, Greg and Keller Henderson, Joe Hertzler, Clare Hilton, Elise Lerberg, Carl Martin, Dave Miller, Tara Peters, JD Reeves, Lowrey and Ansley Reynolds, Jacob Scott, Dave Stanhope, and Pam Young. Thank you to everyone who came out to make the day so successful. You completed many much needed fall projects and the grounds look beautiful because of all of your hard work. Thank you!
This brick walkway is located between the clubhouse deck and the patio with the grill.
Denise Koch, Nancy McDonald, and Holly Panzera (Hosts) with special thanks to Chuck Haines and MaryKate Galke - The Harvest Happy Hour. Congratulations, you threw an event that was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who attended! We had a chance to catch up with members and non-members, including some who have not stepped inside the Clubhouse in years. The decorations were bright and festive, the drinks were tasty and seasonal, and the conversations were lively and enjoyed by all! Thank you!
Kingspoint Club Board Members: WE NEED YOU! We are restructuring the Board and soliciting nominations for the Kingspoint Club Board for 2026. The individuals listed below have been nominated (or asked) for the next iteration of the KP Board, but actually voting on these positions will occur at the Annual Meeting in January. If you would be interested in learning more about one of these positions, please contact kppresidents@gmail.com for more information or to speak to the current member filling the position.
There are at least five elected positions – Each term is currently two-years.
The President of Communications: Ben Brown (Runs meetings-monthly and annual; creates meeting agendas; addresses daily emails; handles daily tasks as they arise)
The Vice President of Membership: Mary LeGouellouc (Attends meetings; addresses membership emails; maintains Club pamphlet; updates and distributes non-resident form; assists Treasurer with collection of dues; keeps list of members in good standing; maintains a team of helpers; reaches out to resident non-members and past members about joining the Club.)
The Secretary: Pam Young (Attends meetings; takes minutes at meetings; uploads minutes to Club Documents folder; Updates Bylaws every 5 years.)
The Treasurer: Catherine Mountjoy (Attends meetings; maintains Quickbooks; prepares/emails all invoices to members; manages expenses from services; creates monthly P&L document; coordinates tax filing with accountant; checks P.O. box.)
The Facilities Coordinator: Michael Gordon (Attends meetings; keeps a running list of Club amenities projects and repairs; coordinates the two annual Clean-Up days; maintains and corresponds with the Facilities Team to facilitate repairs.)
Note: the Facilities Coordinator will also requests and shares updates from the Pool Attendant Coordinator (PAC), the Pool Company Coordinator (PCC), the Clubhouse Rentals Coordinator, the Boat Rack Coordinator, the Dock Team, and the Facilities Team (and thankfully ALL OF THESE POSITIONS ARE FILLED)
_________________________________________________________________________________
Communications Coordinator: Julie Mischler (oversees the website, the newsletter and the kiosk posters; emails event announcements; updates the distribution lists.)
Swim Team Co-Presidents: Our Kingspoint Dolphin summer swim team has a long history (over 65 years!) of coaching our neighborhood swimmers. We teach lifelong skills: swimming, teamwork, work ethic, dedication. And equally important, it's safe and fun! The progress of swimmers from beginning to end of summer each year is completely amazing to witness.
Because the team runs on volunteer support, we are soliciting 2 x co-Presidents for this upcoming swim year. We hope to have these Leadership Positions in place by the end of 2025. All our leadership will be transitioning out of the President positions in 2026 and we can only host a summer swim league if we can fill these positions. Ideally, we need (2) Kingspoint swim families to step up to lead the charge. The season prep generally begins in late March and runs through late July. We have all the continuity files in place for an easy transition.
Please contact Maggie Larson at margaret.larson2006@gmail.com and/or kpswimteam@gmail.com to discuss this opportunity.
Due Diligence Report: The Board discovered that Mike Matthews created a Due Diligence report for the Kingspoint Club (previously completed every 5 years). The Due Diligence report contained the professional reports which evaluate the current status of all of the Club’s amenities. The Board has decided to reinstate Mike’s Due Diligence report in 2025 to help us better understand the Club’s current status. Moving forward, it is our hope that this Board as well as future Boards will use the information in this report to address short-term and long-term maintenance needs of the Club.**
Facilities: **Please let us know if there are things that you have seen which need to be repaired/cleaned/fixed at the Club.
Mark your calendars for our Fall Cleanup Event on Sunday, November 9 (2-5 PM). We need everyone's help to make the clubhouse, pool, and landscaping be something for which our community is proud.
There are a few maintenance items for which we could use volunteer support NOW 1.) power washing some areas on and around the clubhouse. 2.) help in clearing and removing bamboo and other debris from the boat rack area.
If anyone has some extra time, members move are welcome to move mulch anytime to bare areas in the gardens around the clubhouse or elsewhere in the property anytime. (There is a huge new pile of mulch next to Karl and Ruth Ann's house!)
Facilities Team Support: The Facilities Team has LOTS TO DO and NEEDS your help! Can you cut down a dead tree? Can you fix a swim block? Can you replace decking boards? Can you move mulch? Can you fix broken lighting or solve a plumbing mystery? WE NEED YOU! Please contact our Facilities chair (kingspointfacilities@gmail.com) if you would like to join our Facilities Team or to find out if there are any projects that we could use your help completing.
Kingspoint Community Merchandise: T-shirts are $20 each for this year's RED options. Previous years' T-shirts are $5 each; there are limited sizes. Ball caps (RED or GRAY) are $20 each. Koozies are $5 each. All merchandise will be available for sale at Home Swim Meets OR members can email MaryKate Galke (mkgalke@gmail.com) with specific size/color requests.
